Gerasimos Spanakis

Gerasimos (Jerry) Spanakis is an assistant professor in machine learning and data mining at Maastricht University. His current work lies in the area of social computing and includes computational social media modelling, dialogue systems (conversational agents) and information retrieval, topic detection and tracking from text data and pattern discovery from multimodal data sources.

More specifically, he is interested into using Large Language Models (like chatGPT) in a controlled way and build useful applications that have added value for all relevant stakeholders. Dr. Spanakis has published and served in the program committees of many renowned international journals and conferences in the fields of Machine learning and Natural Language Processing. He is also providing trainings and expert opinions for European Commission initiatives (currently he is a senior expert in the E-Enforcement Academy).
